sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list
add the following line save and exit
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu feisty-commercial main
Now you need to update Ubuntu Source List using the following command
sudo apt-get update
Install Vmware Server in Ubuntu Feisty
sudo apt-get install vmware-server vmware-tools-kernel-modules

In this Part 2 of virtualization articles, we will explore KVM. KVM stands for kernel-based virtual machine, which is now available in 2.6.20 mainline kernel. But KVM is known to be backward compatible to 2.6.18 of Debian Etch. So, it is still possible to run kvm on Debian Etch without upgrading the kernel to 2.6.20.

Have you ever wanted to play with a new distro without having to burn and then reboot into a liveCD or do an install into a spare partition that you may or may not have? QEMU has been an option for awhile but it is slow. There are several options available to run up a virtual machine, i.e. a second operating system running inside and seperate from your already running operating system. Here we will be focusing on kqemu and kvm.

paleshadows writes "A year and a half has passed since SubVirt, the first VMM (virtual machine monitor) based rootkit, was introduced (PDF), covered in the tech press, and discussed here. Later Joanna Rutkowska made news by claiming she had a VMM-based attack on Vista that was undetectable — a claim that was roundly challenged. Now in this year's HotOS workshop, researchers from Stanford, CMU, VMware, and XenSource have published a paper titled Compatibility Is Not Transparency: VMM Detection Myths and Realities (PDF) showing that VMM-based rootkits are actually easily detectable."
