With independence comes less reliance on ‘Big Brother’ or bureaucracy. Such bureaucracy should be questioned. So should our artificial money system, arms expenditures for securing resources - ongoing colonial expansion that we fund, and a legal system that enforces commerce = war as the status quo.
The world as we know it is about to be transformed. Why? Because our economic system is based on continuous growth, and unlimited material growth cannot be sustained on a planet with finite resources. There are only two possible outcomes; either increasing resource shortages and collapsing ecosystems will end advanced civilizations on earth, or a sustainable planetary system will emerge.

Comprehensive, collaborative, ever-growing, and personalized, the Encyclopedia of Life is an ecosystem of websites that makes all key information about life on Earth accessible to anyone, anywhere in the world. Our goal is to create a constantly evolving encyclopedia that lives on the Internet, with contributions from scientists and amateurs alike. To transform the science of biology, and inspire a new generation of scientists, by aggregating all known data about every living species. And ultimately, to increase our collective understanding of life on Earth, and safeguard the richest possible spectrum of biodiversity.

Why would anyone care about creating a community where none exists? Well, in the "food poisoning" example, if there had been such information sharing, the tragic poisoning of thousands of dogs and cats by Menu Foods, Nestle Purina, Del Monte, Hills and others might have been averted. And it's estimated that every year one out of four people in affluent nations contracts at least one case of food poisoning.

It’s more realistic to expect change around the edges than at the very center of the system. Periodically I read about diseases that could probably be treated, but exist mostly in impoverished areas. So there’s very little economic reward for the necessary research, development and deployment.

But the sharing and spreading of new ideas is central, not only through the Internet, but socially. Various platforms, amplifiers and scenes are central for the sharing of knowledge at this level and this is actually something that can be supported beyond the “recreation” or “hobby” level it is perceived as today.

Adam Glenn, in a description of the Christmas Bird Count, shows how some citizen science projects have evolved solutions for quality control. He wants to apply these lessons to the field of citizen journalism, where accuracy is equally important.

For some time I've been thinking about ways we could more effectively find 'like minds' to make a living with or even just to work on projects we have a shared passion for. Too many of us are working alone, and if we're going to make a real difference, and experience the full joy of Natural Enterprise and Intentional Community, we need to start working with others whose talents complement our own, and who we can come easily to love.

Is it possible to have a business model that rewards the 3 parties involved in collaborative content models, i.e. creators, platform enablers, and consumers?

Arcosanti is designed according to the concept of arcology (architecture + ecology), developed by Italian architect Paolo Soleri. In an arcology, the built and the living interact as organs would in a highly evolved being. This means many systems work together, with efficient circulation of people and resources, multi-use buildings, and solar orientation for lighting, heating and cooling.

So, it seems clear that if we want to move from stage 2.0 to stage 3.0, the only solution is to create communities that will produce a fully autonomous distributed infrastructure.
A while ago I published a workplace communication and collaboration tool decision tree. At that time I outlined five reasons (habit, personality, office layout, ignorance and unavailability) that cause many people to use the wrong tool, and stressed that cost is no longer a factor -- most of these tools are available free.
