網路的普及性讓大量低成本的色情照片和影片湧入市場，使德業者拍攝的精緻X級DVD影片乏人問津。便宜的數位科技讓大量業餘人士紛紛搶進市場分食大餅，為了爭取顧客，業者紛紛播送更多免費影音，好誘使消費者上門。 色情片與一般歌曲或電影最大的不同特性是，消費者沒有品牌忠誠度，不在乎場景華麗與否，能不能看到要看的才是重點。不會有人去管影片是在片場或豪宅拍攝，還是在業餘攝影師的家中。 根據紐約時報報導，經過多年來銷售的穩定成長之後，去年色情影片的銷售與出租額開始滑落，從2005年的42億8千萬美元，變成去年的36億2千萬美元。AVN媒體網路總裁費許班說，如果這個情況無法改變，年產值超過130億美元的性娛樂工業市場今年可能會開始萎縮。他說，色情工業來自網路的收益成長不夠快，無法彌補影片收入的下滑。
據法新社報導，本周三香港最高法庭表示，將對該男子進行審判。該男子名為陳奈名，無業，罪名是利用點對點文件共用技術，通過互聯網傳輸三部vn萊塢電影。而該男子的辯護律師在此之前一再重申，他並未對電影進行傳播，只是本人下載觀看而已。另一方面，即使他對電影進行傳播，也只不過是依照點對點文件共用下載軟件的慣例而已。實際上，BitTorrent下載技術可以通過彼此互傳的方式，提高網友對大容量文件的下載速度，不過該平台充斥了大量的盜版內容。
