經典模擬類型遊戲模擬城市（SimCity）自其商業版推出後 19 年， 終於以 GPL 授權釋出開放源碼版本。這套遊戲的開發者 Don Hopkins 重新翻修了模擬城市的原始程式碼，為這次的開放源碼版本釋出做了許多必要的修改。模擬城市遊戲的開放源碼版本也將納入一學童一筆電（One Laptop Per Child，OLPC）基金會的 XO 筆記型電腦中。
