就像 Gibson 不能不沾到，在此也不能不提到，東方主義。當然，科幻, by definition, 就是尋找他者，而東方，特別配了科技的日本，又是科幻的終極他者。打從 Neuromancer 就是，還有電影版的 Johnny Mnemonic 裡的北京想像，Idoru裡的日本台北香港，Pattern Recognition 裡的新宿六本木，全都是淺度差不多的 stereotyping，跟 Lost 3.9 裡的刺青假翻譯＋白靈＋假泰國＋簡體字假書法差不多的淺度。對於俄國，這個美國人視為某種東方的國家，書中的 stereotyping 程度也差不多：陰暗、顴骨、黑手黨。是的，你得不斷地聽他說俄國人的顴骨有多高。
Willian Gibson的科幻小說阿伊朵（IDORU）於2006年11月下旬出版中文繁體字譯本了！平心而論，我認為威廉吉布森（Willian Gibson）的科幻小說出版中文（繁體）譯本是出版界一件很不得了的大事件。至少應該是華文科幻小說界的大事件。只可惜我人微言輕，沒人會在乎我認為什麼什麼，不過，我想我至少可以在本格發個聲，寫幾個字，以實際行動來支持這一樁「我心目中」的科幻文學盛事。
