最近英文教師虛擬社群論壇EVOnline，熱烈討論著「Google Docs算不算是Wiki？」(Are Google Docs Wikis?)。就Wiki的定義來看，「任何人都可以透過瀏覽器自由地存取、貢獻或編輯的多個網頁(collection of web pages)」，Google Docs是wiki。

典藏單位資料的正確性，將會是數位典藏產出與一般網路流通資訊相較之下最大的利基。進行數位典藏的目的，不也正是要將正確的知識加以保留、傳播嗎？不過，在缺少詮釋、或是故事性文字的引領之下，一般人究竟能夠對數百萬筆多種不同專業精深領域的典藏，產生多少的瞭解與共鳴呢？這點，或許也是我們可以捫心自問的課題。
根據Google的描述，Knol代表a unit of knowledge（知識單元）。Knol是Google當前內測中的一個產品，Google已邀請一小部分人參與測試。Google希望通過Knol鼓勵在某方面有特長的人寫出相關的權威文章，這些文章將被保存在Google的服務器裡。
個人還是覺得這種分佈式知識庫，或者說百科全書，還是要優於維基百科、Squidoo、Scholarpedia，以及可能即將發佈的 knol。現在網絡上的知識內容非常豐富，需要的可能就是一個更好的「目錄」，或者檢索方式而已。
